The TBM 850, introduced in 2006, marked a major leap forward in the TBM family’s evolution. Powered by the Pratt & Whitney PT6A-66D engine producing 850 shaft horsepower, it delivers cruise speeds up to 320 knots and ranges near 1,400 nautical miles. The aircraft retained the TBM 700’s airframe strength and handling characteristics but offered faster climb, higher cruise altitudes, and greater payload flexibility. Its combination of turbine performance, low operating costs, and owner-pilot accessibility made it one of the most successful high-performance turboprops of its era.
The 850’s cabin seats up to five passengers in a pressurized, executive-class interior, with a top service ceiling of 31,000 feet and NBAA IFR range suitable for nonstop regional and transcontinental business missions. Later production years offered the Garmin G1000-equipped Integrated Flight Deck, improving situational awareness and reducing pilot workload.
Early models featured traditional analog-digital hybrid avionics, offering a significant performance increase over the TBM 700C2 while maintaining its familiar cockpit layout and systems.
Introduced the Garmin G1000 avionics suite and integrated autopilot system, bringing glass-cockpit technology, reduced pilot workload, and enhanced situational awareness. This version also refined interior trim, environmental controls, and optional ice-protection systems.
